The Mercedes-AMG ONE: A car that made history, before it was built.
A documentary by Cutting Edge Productions, produced by Tina Preschitz and directed by Jochen Schmoll.
In 2015, Mercedes-AMG set out to crack one of the last barriers within the automotive industry: The first street legal Hypercar with F1 Technology.
What started with big promises from the AMG-Management and highest expectations from not only a handpicked crowd of 275 buyers, but the automotive industry and beyond, soon turned into a project that put the image of the entire Mercedes group at stake: misfires, problems, delays, frustrations, tensions within the management and the teams, and the rising pressure from all sides– failure was not an option.
Six years in the making, this for sure was a milestone, worth to be documented. As the pinnacle of an ending era and the step stone into the future of PERFORMANCE, this car is for sure, ONE of its kind. Mercedes-AMG granted Cutting Edge unrestricted access to their teams, management, partners, and archives.
Interviews with Lewis Hamilton, David Coulthard, Susie Wolff, Victoria Swarovski, FIA president Dr. Ben Sulayem, Mat Watson, as well as the Mercedes and AMG management, engineers, mechanics, designers, software developers and car builders give the ultimate and honest insight into all aspects of PROJECT ONE, and a behind-the-scenes look at how automotive history was being made.
Formula One driver Carlos Sainz has always made bold choices, but none bolder than betting on Williams. In this episode, the F1 star opens up about turning down easier options to join a long-term project led by James Vowles, and why trust, people, and honesty mattered more than numbers or hype.
He also addresses the Red Bull rumours head-on, sharing his real thoughts on Max Verstappen, why he never made that call, and the reality of playing second fiddle in a team built around one superstar. It’s not bitterness, it’s clarity.
Beyond the politics and paddock talk, Carlos gets real about the personal price of chasing a championship: the constant obsession, the missed moments, and the challenge of being present when your mind is always in the car.
This episode is an honest look at what it truly takes to fight for the top, and what gets left behind along the way.
